How to Add Help Desk Support Information

This page shows how you can add help desk support information to your course using Design Tools. It is important that students have accurate information on how to get support with Canvas. If you are not familiar with Design Tools, please review the link below for more details.
There is two different ways you can add this information to your course. Ideally, it is best to add both. Use the tabbed menu to view tutorials on how to add both options.
Adding the Syllabus Help Desk Support Block
On the syllabus and pages you can add content blocks to the page. On the syllabus page the content blocks are designed to help you build a syllabus. Once of the content blocks provides technical support information to your syllabus. Review the numbered item below.
- Edit a page and launch Design Tools (click the rocket icon in upper right corner). In the Design Tools panel click +Add Content Blocks.
- A side panel will display to the left of the Design Tools panel. There are several pre-built syllabus blocks you can select to add to the page. Be sure to select the Help Desk Support block to add to the page.
- It is recommended to add a title block and customize the banner text. This helps to make your page more accessible. On the page each content block will outlined with a blue line. At the end of the content blocks on the page you will see End Design Tools Wrapper text. This shows you where the content blocks end on the page. Edit the page as desired.
- If you already have content on syllabus page, you can select portions of the text to create your content blocks. Be sure to give each content block a title as this will be applied as header which make the page more accessible.
- Click Update Syllabus when done.
Add Canvas Tutorial using Copy Existing Content
In Design Tools there is some pre-built content you can copy into blank pages or assignments. One of the options is the Canvas Tutorial. This page provides a video tutorial and help desk support information. Review the numbered items below for the steps to add the content to a new page.
- Create a new page (see guide Links to an external site.) and launch Design Tools (Click the rocket icon). In the title section, add the title "Canvas Tutorial". Note: Do NOT use this option on page that already has content as it will remove existing content!
- Place the cursor in the rich content editor.
- In the Design Tools panel click Create/Edit Content and then select Copy Existing Content.
- Under Institutional Templates click the drop down menu and select the Canvas Tutorial from the list.
- Click Save & Publish when done. Add the page to module list or link to your syllabus or home page.
