Using Conferences as a Student

Canvas Tutorials Using Conferences as a Student

Student Tutorial Module

What are Conferences?

Conferences makes it easy to meet with your instructor and other students in synchronous (real-time) discussions within your course. Currently, Canvas integrates with BigBlueButton. Your instructor may invite you to course-wide conferences or set up personal conferences. Conferences allows you to broadcast real-time audio, video, or share presentation slides, and other online resources. To access a conference click Conferences in the left navigation of the course OR if the conference is part of a group, click People in the course navigation OR click groups in the global navigation. View the tabbed menu below for more information.

How to use Big Blue Button as Moderator

In Groups students can also create conferences. View the video below on how to use Big Blue Button as moderator.

Important Tips

Please note students cannot create a conference at the course level; however, students can set up conferences in Student Groups.

Starting with the April 20, 2019 release in Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox Conferences will use HTML 5 for the Conference interface. All other browsers will use Flash to deliver the conference interface. Flash is automatically disabled and must be enabled before you can see the Conference interface.
