What is Respondus Lockdown Browser?
LockDown Browser is a locked browser for taking quizzes in Canvas. It prevents you from printing, copying, going to another URL, or accessing other applications during an assessment. If a Canvas quiz requires that LockDown Browser be used, you will not be able to take the quiz with a standard web browser. This information will be noted in the title of the quiz. Quizzes using Lockdown browser will require to be proctored in the proctoring lab or be proctored by your instructor. View the tabbed menu below to learn more.

Instructions to Begin a Quiz
The Lockdown browser software installed in Testing and Tutoring Center proctoring labs Links to an external site.. If you are taking an online course, your instructor may require you to schedule Lockdown browser enabled Canvas quizzes in proctoring lab. Additionally, some instructors may proctor your test in a computer lab during one of your scheduled meeting times.
- Login to the computer as instructed by the person proctoring the test.
- Close all programs
- Locate the “LockDown Browser” shortcut on the desktop and double-click it.
- If prompted to close a blocked program (e.g. screen capture, instant messaging) choose Yes when prompted.
- Login to your Canvas course.
- Navigate to the quiz and select quiz title.
- Click the Take a Quiz link. Allow the proctor to enter the password if necessary.
- Once a quiz has been started with LockDown Browser, you cannot exit until the Submit Answers button is clicked.
Important Notes

Lockdown browser is only available in Lake Land College proctoring centers and a Lockdown enabled quiz cannot be taken at an out of district location. Please make arrangements with your instructor so alternative arrangements can be setup for you.
