What Options are Available?

The course Import tool allows instructors to copy content from one Canvas course to another or import content from other sources. In the course navigation click Settings. On the settings page click Import Course Content from the right sidebar menu. Instructors also have the option to export course content. Review the tabbed menu below.

Please note in video it references creating courses. In the Lake Land instance you will not be able to create courses. Upcoming semester Canvas shells are automatically created at mid-term of the current semester. See Course Creation Process

Import Notes

Please note the following. 

If you created an export package (see export tab) and downloaded it to a local drive, you can re-import it from the import screen. Review the following guide. 

Starting with the April 20, 2019 Links to an external site. release instructors must check the box next to Include completed courses to see past semester courses in the course drop down menu.

Export Options

You can backup a course for safekeeping or to share course content with other instructors. This will create an export file in the standard IMS Common Cartridge formatted file Links to an external site. (*.IMSCC). The *IMSCC file cannot be open on your computer but you can share this file with other instructors and they can import file into a Canvas course or other LMS system that supports the IMS Common Cartridge format. Canvas quizzes can also be exported and imported into Canvas courses. To export a course click Settings in the left navigation.  On the course details page on the right sidebar click Export Course Content. The next screen will display options for the export. Be sure to download content exports immediately because content exports will expire after 30 days and can no longer be downloaded. For more detailed instructions view the Canvas Guides below.
