Using Modules to Organize Content

Canvas Tutorials Using Modules to Organize Content

Instructor Creating Content Module

Why Use Modules?

Canvas Modules allow instructors to organize and present content to students in an organized manner. Content can be chunked into several different sections depending on how an instructor chooses to organize content. Some common organization methods include chapters, units, sections, weeks, or by type. For example, an art history course could organize content in linear order by time or in a non-linear order by art style. No matter what organizational method you use, just be sure to be consistent in your naming scheme. This will make easier for students to scan and read content in the course. Important Notes

Modules are now the course default home. If you do not change the course home to another option (see Canvas Course Overview), you must create a published module in your course before you can publish the course for students to view (see How to Publish Your Course).

Instructors can use Design Tools templates and module builder to create content and build module structure. Please review the following tutorials for information on how to use the Design Tools features.

Instructors can create Mastery Paths in assignments. It is best to arrange all assignments in modules so students can see the mastery path information. Mastery Paths is  a feature option that must be enabled in course settings. See following guide for details.
