Let's Practice Checklist

Before you start, make sure to enroll at least two colleagues into your course so they can try your assignments below.

TASK 1

  1. Create a Canvas page and embed a google slide show
  2. STEPS
    1. Get your "materials" ready: 
      • Create Google slide show (TIP: Make sure you are consistent with your naming convention. It makes it easier to find what you need later!)
      • Create a Canvas Page
    2. Publish your Google slide show
    3. Grab the Embed code
    4. Go to Canvas Page and add the embed code in the HTML Editor window

TASK 2

  1. Create a Canvas Assignment using a Google Cloud Assignment
  2. STEPS
    1. Get your "materials" ready: 
      • Create Google slide show or doc (TIP: Make sure you are consistent with your naming convention. It makes it easier to find what you need later!)
      • Create a Canvas Assignment
    2. On your  Canvas Assignment: Click on EDIT
    3. On the Submission Type: Select EXTERNAL TOO
    4. On the External Tool: Select Google Cloud Assignment (TIP: You may need to authorize)
    5. Select your Assignment.
    6. Click to return to the Assignment window.
    7. Save. 

TASK 3

  1. Create a Canvas Assignment in which students submit a Google Assignment
  2. STEPS
    1. Get your "materials" ready: 
      • Create Google doc (TIP: Make sure you are consistent with your naming convention. It makes it easier to find what you need later!)
      • Create a Canvas Assignment
    2. On your Google Doc,
      1. change the settings to "anyone who has the link"
      2. Copy the URL
    3. On your Canvas Assignment, click on EDIT
    4. Add instructions that include wording such as "Click here to make your own copy of this google assignment."
    5. Then paste the link for the word "here". (TIP: To make an automatic copy, chagne "edit to copy in the URL"

    1. On Submission Type, select FILE UPLOAD
    2. Save.

TASK 4

  1. Create a Collaboration and invite two or three of your "students" to the party!
  2. STEPS
    1. Click on Collaboration
    2. Click on +Collaboration and select Google Apps
    3. Select the kind of collaboration you want (document, slides or spreadsheet)
    4. Add the Name of the Collaboration
    5. Click on the names of students you want in the collaboration
    6. Click on Submit to start.
