Podcast Project: Describing Data         See Rubric: rubric.pdf

Due Date: October 16&17        What is due: 1) Recorded Podcast  2) Excel Spreadsheet with Analysis 3) Script

Groups of two will work on making the first statistics podcast.  The goal of this podcast is transform a data set of your choice into a fascinating story. 

Part I: Data Set

  1. Pick a data set: Data Sets
  2. Data set approval: check in with the instruction for approval. 

Part II: Excel Analysis [10 points]

  1. Format data: easy to read, remove, hide columns you are not using, clear heading, freeze pain headings
  2. Summary Stats Table: Mean, median, mode, max, min, standard deviation, range
  3. Histogram of items you are looking at
  4. Query Table with at a minimum of 4 queries:
  5. At least one percent: percent change, percentile, percent of a certain value
  6. Sort and Filter: use these tools to find interesting things about your data set and record what you find
  7. Count ifs: use to find amounts of certain things occurring

Part III: Background research

  1. Look at past and related research and articles
  2. Compare findings with other states or time periods (if relevant)

Part IV: Write Script [10]

  1. set up shared google document
  2. use the Podcast content requirements on the back of this sheet as a guide

Part V: Record and Edit your Podcast [10]

you can record using your phones.  Two apps that work well are:  opinion (iphone) & spreaker (andriod)
